with
Lisa Ober

Picture

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
April 26, 27 & 28, 2019

Learn to see people in new ways and pick up useful techniques as Lisa Ober shares over 30 years of portrait painting experience.

Artist Lisa Ober, PSA, IAPS/MC, will be teaching a fun hands-on workshop enthusiastically sharing her approach to painting portraits in acrylic or oil. Lisa will guide students through step-by-step instruction using her portrait technique, from the first sketch to the finished portrait using a photo reference (provided). Short demonstrations followed by plenty of class work time make this class rewarding and informative.

Lisa will discuss:
  • Achieving a likeness
  • Proportions for faces
  • Color selection and mixing
  • Getting the values right
  • Paint application techniques
  • Adding depth and expression
  • The key to great eyes
  • Flattering the subject
  • Veering from your reference/Making artistic decisions

Lisa will include special instruction on painting eyes which are crucial to a believable and life-like portrait. She will also share additional tidbits of painting wisdom as students work through their respective portraits.

Acrylic and oil painters are welcome in this workshop. To avoid long drying times and allow enough time for completion of the under-painting, we will be using acrylics for day 1 and 2 of the workshop. Lisa will provide the acrylic paints unless you have your own.

The workshop will be limited to 15 artists so each student receives plenty of guidance and is able to get all questions answered. You will need to provide your own canvas (20 X 24) and easel. Tables are available if you prefer to work flat, but standing or table easels are preferred. This workshop is a three-day workshop and will include snacks and Diane’s (our host’s wife) famous healthy lunches on Saturday and Sunday.

This is to make certain you have enough visual information in your photo to have a successful result. Please email your reference to Lisa at LisaAOber@gmail.com by April 10th.

Price for the workshop will be $375.

Bring your sense of humor, a willingness to try new things, a head full of questions, a passion for painting portraits, and be prepared to amaze yourself and others!
