2007 Paint St. Louis Competition
October 20th Through November 4th
Artists representing a wide variety of expertise and media – acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawing and mixed media – are invited to create artworks anywhere within the City of St. Louis, Missouri. All paintings must be created en plein air. Registered artists will have nine days to complete their works of art, which must be executed outdoors and on-site in the City Limits of St. Louis. Artists are also welcome to participate in four special Quick-Paint Competitions. Artists will have the opportunity to have their best work juried and win over $1,000 in prizes and awards. The top forty selected Plein Air paintings will be exhibited and offered for sale at Belas Artes Multicultural Center starting November 16th through December 26th. |

JUDGING: No unstamped surfaces will be considered for jury. All works for jury must be delivered by 6:30 pm Monday, November 5th. Each artist may submit up to two pieces for judging. All paintings to be judged must be framed. No studio artwork or artwork from locations other than the City of St. Louis will be allowed. Artist's Choice award will be voted on during the November 16th Reception. Awards will be announced during the Artist Reception and Exhibit opening on
November 16th.
SALES: All artwork for sale will be subject to a 30% commission.
REGISTRATION & CHECK-IN: Participants must be registered. All artists must have their painting surfaces stamped before painting. They can check in at Paint St. Louis Headquarters, 1926 Allen, 314 773-4112 or prior to any of the quick paint contests.

EVENT SCHEDULE
Monday October 15th: Deadline for pre-registration. Late registration and walk-ins accepted up to October 20th. You must be registered and get your media stamped.
Saturday, October 20. Artist may start painting at sunrise anywhere in the City Limits of St. Louis, but make sure your media surfaces are stamped first.
Saturday, October 20: Forest Park Quick Paint Contest, Forest Park Quick Paint Contest
Color or no color, Paint St. Louis starts this Saturday October 20th with our second annual Forest Park Quick Paint Contest. We will set up a table in front of the Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center at 8:00AM for you to sign in and get your canvases stamped. The Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center is the same location as last year, located on Grand Drive just northeast of the Dwight Davis Tennis Center (Click here for PDF map of Forest Park). And yes, you can get extra canvases stamped to use as you paint later in the week.
There are restrooms and a snack shop (Forest Perc Café) in the Visitor’s Center offering drinks, snacks, breakfast and lunch. It will open at 6:30 AM Saturday.
Sunday, October 21: Harvest Still-life at Belas Artes Multicultural Center, Our weather will be beautiful, sunny and approaching 80º on Sunday, October 21st for this quick paint contest. Belas Artes will be setting up a variety of harvest oriented still-life situations on their patio area for us to paint. This contest starts at 2:00PM and runs to 5:00PM with the judging starting at 5:10PM. To make it more personal, feel free to bring some of your own props to add to the mix.
This contest is being sponsored by Belas Artes (http://www.belas-artes.net) and Mary Cox with Edward Jones Co. (http://www.edwardjones.com) Judges to be announced. $200 in awards.
Saturday, October 27: Houses of Tower Grove District Quick Paint Contest,This Quick Paint Contest is sponsored by Lynne Bode (http://www.lynnebode.com) and Tari Brown (http://www.taribrown.com) with RE/MAX Results. The contest is on Saturday, October 27th and starts at 2:00 PM and runs to 5:00PM. Subject matter are the houses and buildings surrounding Tower Grove Park. The boundary area for this contest is Shaw Avenue to the North, Compton Avenue to the East, Utah to the South and Kingshighway to the West. I suggest you arrive early and scout around for a subject that appeals to you. We will announce next week where you can get your canvases stamped for this contest and where we will hold the judging. Janice Mudd will be our judge. A first place prize of $200 will be awarded.
November 4: Bevo Mill Quick Paint Contest, Our last quick paint contest for the 2007 will be at Bevo Mill on Sunday, November 4th from 11:00AM until 2:00PM. We’ll hope for good weather but if it turns bad we’ll move into the Oak Room and use our ingenuity to paint interior scenes. Bevo Mill (http://www.bevomillstl.com) is our sponsor and they will provide us with snacks and drinks as well as a $100.00 first prize gift certificate. Barbara Remeley Martin will be our judge. Come early and enjoy the Bevo Mill’s Sunday Brunch – one of the best in town. You might bring an extra easel to display your art to the Sunday evening dinner crowd.

Friday, November 16th: 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM Artist Reception and Exhibit opening at Belas Artes Multicultural Center. Artists and Guests will vote on Best of Show.
