The Beauty of Imperfection – Less is More
|

May 5, 6, 7, 2017 9:00AM - 4:00PM |

We will throw perfection out the window, giving us permission to use simplification, bold strokes, exaggeration and mark-making as we explore shapes, space and color in this intense fun 3-day workshop taught by PSA Master Pastelist, Jen Evenhus. Our focus will be “Less is More” - the more you limit yourself, the more creative and innovative you become. Fewer choices frees the mind to concentrate on the essentials - DESIGN, VALUE, COLOR, MOVEMENT. Students will work from landscape photos provided by instructor, from their own photo reference, and still life objects. Weather permitting, we’ll do some plein air sketching. Along with a good variety of soft and hard pastels, and good sanded pastel paper, other materials like ink, markers, brushes and graphite will be used. We will use a contemporary impressionist, expressionist, and abstract styles as we explore shapes, composition, positive and negative space, bold vs neutral color and mark-making.
